Needs Assessment

I just read the section on individual needs
assessments.

In the organization I work for it is my opinion that we do a
poor job of assessing learner needs prior to developing a training
program.

The need for training programs is typically identified
through an organizational need.  Dollars
are assigned for training when an organizational need is identified.  The training program is developed and then
individual needs are assessed and training materials are adjusted accordingly.

I think that we are doing a poor job by not spending more time
assessing individual  learner needs prior
to spending dollars on developing training programs.

  1. I'm not sure what your ability is to change this is...but maybe you might have some suggestions for your organization by the end of this course. Good luck!

  2. I agree with what you are saying and would also like to add my sentiments that too often than not it's the $$$ at the forefront of developing education and training programs. I’ve learned the hard way that when the money runs out so too does the possibility for additional training programs – no matter the need.

  3. This echoes the way the company I work for operates. It sometimes drives me round the bend with frustration. I know what the learners need and how I, as a trainer, can make it happen. The company on the other hand, has a completely different perspective and there is a great divide between the two. You're not alone!
